A summer job at Holston Camp goes beyond
program-teaching skills. It is a
demanding job that uses interpersonal skills and personal resources.
The following questions are designed to help us get to know you better
and give you a chance to understand more of what your role in camp might be.
(Even if you are not a counselor, you will be in contact with and working
for the children.)
Please attach a short answer to each of the following questions. There are no right or wrong answers. Some of these are things we struggle with ourselves, so we are interested in new ideas.
1.
How did you hear about Holston Presbytery Camp?
2.
How would you describe yourself? (Background,
Strengths, Weaknesses)
3.

What did you learn from them?
4.
What do you do for fun and relaxation?

What do you need to know in order to feel comfortable working with us?
6.
In what ways do you think a camp should deal with global/societal issues?
Which specific issues do you feel we should address?
7.
In what specific ways do you feel you as an adult role model and/or
counselor could help a child boost his/her views of oneself as male or female?
8.
How do you recognize signs of stress in yourself?
How do you manage personal stress?
9.
Describe a situation that called on you to work as a team member.
How did you resolve differences in style, values and priorities?
10. How would you
describe yourself with children?
11.
If you are a counselor, you will be teamed with a co-counselor.
What characteristics do you feel your co-counselor should have to be a
good balance and partner for you?
12. What types of
situations with children do you think would be most difficult for you?
13.
How would you suggest a camp deal with the issue of child abuse?
What are your personal feelings about this issue and what could you
contribute to assure a concerned parent?
14.
What is your reaction to our staff policies and expectations .(In general?
Also, give specific reactions to the no drugs, alcohol nor smoking
policy.)
15.
If you are interested in working with our Older Youth Adventure Program (ages
14-18), please describe your image of a teenager and your experience with that
age group.
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions thoughtfully. We hope that by thinking about these issues, you will also have better insight into the values education that can occur so naturally in a supportive, Christian summer-camp setting.
